First impressions
This is probably one of the first times educational settings are being viewed directly from a student’s perspective and considered alongside other institutions, with FE colleges often competing fiercely with neighbouring colleges and school sixth forms. As a result, while our designs are rooted in supporting strong academic traditions, they also play an important role in presenting the school or college in a positive and engaging light.
It’s the same, but different
Within sixth forms, colleges and universities, a lot of the principles by which we design every learning space remains the same. But there’s one glaring difference: the students who’ll be occupying the spaces are now young adults (and sometimes old adults!). The authority by which things are accepted or challenged is different. We know that the students who’ll occupy these spaces and sometimes paying to attend them have high expectations and won’t be afraid of demanding as such of the institution.
